February 12th: Hannah Reid “Overcoming Mean Girls”

“You can’t sit with us…”

Mean Girls. We encounter them everyday. Teenage girls are the most notorious. However, it starts at an earlier age and sometimes carries into adulthood. Maybe we’ve even been the “mean girl” at some point. But, where does this mindset come from? It’s certainly been an issue for generations of girls.

I think most women have been on the giving and receiving end of a “mean girl” attitude at some point. Maybe you’re raising girls and trying to deal with this problem.

My name is Hannah Reid. I have been married to my husband Trey for 14 years and he serves as the Senior Pastor of FBC Robinson. I have three children, Callie (12), Ashtyn (9), and Josiah (1) and I’m a homemaker and home educator.

After years of serving in student ministry with teenage girls, and now raising two girls, I’ve seen the need to address this subject. It’s so common in our culture and the only way for it to change is for us to make a difference.

Join us at Mom2Mom on Tuesday, February 12th (6:00-7:30pm) as I discuss this topic. I’ll be looking at the root of the issue, sharing examples from the Bible of some of the “mean girls” from Scripture. Then we will discuss ways to deal with this negative attitude in our own lives.

Mom2Mom is open to women of all ages and stages of life. There is free childcare provided. We meet at First Baptist Church of Robinson, 301 South Jefferson St.

“Glory be to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of – infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes” Ephesians 3:20

Our family was complete. My husband and I had one daughter and two sons. We were happy with the live we were living. God had other plans for us. Our lives changed in July of 2015. Chloe was born to my cousin on June 30, 2015. I had only seen my cousin a handful of time. My uncle had visited us a week prior to Chloe’s born. This also was unusual. I think the last time I seen him was when my dad had passed away and before that I could not tell you when. He told me that his daughter was going to have her baby in the next week at Bloomington Ind. Unknown to me God had been working in our life. Isaac our youngest had been going to the eye doctor in Bloomington. So we were getting familiar with this place, not knowing God’s future plans for us. My uncle texted my mom to let her know that his granddaughter was born and sent her a few pictures. My mother called me to let me know that Chloe was born and that the state wastaking her and place her with my uncle. I called him and told him that we would love to help him out in any way we could. We would even take her into our home. On July 4, 2015 my uncle, his wife and Chloe came to our home. My uncle took her back home (Evansville) with him. Two days later my oldest daughter and I went to Evansville and brought Chloe back with us. How our world would change over the next two years. I have always had a trust issue, and what a way for God to show me to let go and fully rely on him.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
